Think back to your school days and your favourite teachers. What made them a great teacher? There could be a variety of characteristics, such as confidence, subject knowledge, creativity, understanding the needs of the students.

For the new teacher, becoming a successful teacher; where the students benefit and you feel you have done a worthwhile lesson can be daunting. How do you get creative, confident, knowledgeable and empathetic? Planning and preparation is the key.

If you know how to put a English language lesson together, with an idea of what you should be achieving in that lesson, the kind of activities to use, you will immediately have a lot more confidence to walk into the room. You will have thought about the students' needs, their level and what they need to learn before hand.

With English as your first language, your subject knowledge will be excellent, you may just need to build your knowledge of grammar terminology and rules, again preparing your lesson properly will mean that you are an expert in what you are teaching in that lesson.

If you're are not feeling creative, well ideas breed ideas. By attending a TEFL course, you will be given lots of different ideas for activities, which will then spark other ideas for future lessons.

Learning how to plan and prepare lessons properly is the key to successful teaching, and the good news is that you can learn how to do this on a 2-day TEFL course. You will even have 2 opportunities to put the theory into practice on the course. If giving up a weekend is too much, then you can also learn the teaching methodology with an online TEFL course.
