Changing Worlds has teamed up with the UK based charity Azafady to help some of the poorest communities in the World. Azafady are responsible for sending Pioneer volunteers to South East Madagascar to work side by side with the locals.

Over the last ten years Azafady have made considerable progress in building and maintaining environmental friendly and sustainable ways of life that are appropriate and meaningful for the local people in and around Port Dauphin.

Pioneer volunteers have helped build wells, construct schools and retain the fast dwindling rain forest environment. This is not simply about feeding the lemurs (which you will do anyway!) but this is hands on conservation - for the people by the people!

Changing Worlds offers the experience to work with a marine conservation group in Gansbaai in South Africa. This would suit a graduate with an interest in marine animals notably the Great White shark.

Changing Worlds has an opportunity to work side by side with local conservation workers in the hill station town of Koidakanal in Tamil Nadu, Southern India. This beautiful setting offers the backdrop to habitat conservation (destruction of the unique Shona Forest through slash and burn agriculture methods and collection of firewood).

The voluntary organisation promotes the conservation of India's native plants and their habitats by raising plant nurseries, establishing conservation gardens, restoring habitats and where possible acquiring properties to ensure the survial of specific species and ecosystems (the Nilgiri Hills are the home of the Nilgiri Tahr - the only place found anywhere on the planet!).

You will also help in the horticultural skills, creating awareness of the intrinsic value of nature within the local communities (particularly within the schools) and aim to encourage the spirit of voluntarism to fulfil these aims and objectives.

The conservation group is run by an English couple. Their interests lie in the flora of the Western Ghats (mountain chain) along with insects, birds and amphibians. Bob is a keen photographer of plants and does all the writing for the Trust. Tanya is the main communicator to the local population and Forest department.

You will also enjoy the company of a local man called Jey. Jey co-ordinates with other local NGOs, does cartography work, helps with routine administration and organises the local work force. Jey's wife gives invaluable help in translating English in to the local Tamil language.

Jey's interest lie in the native plants, eco-restoration, environmental awareness and the education of tribal youth and women.

Changing Worlds have conservation  placements in Kisumu in Western Kenya on the coast of Lake Victoria.

The conservation project is based around habitat conservation - working with a local conservation group called the Lake Victoria Sunset Birders.

The work involves working with local schools and communities on conserving and preserving the swamp land environment fringing Lake Victoria. There is also the opportunity to work within a local radio station involved in getting important conservation messages out to outlying rural areas.

Changing Worlds offers the unique opportunity to work in a zoo in South East Queensland, Australia. This would be of particular interest to those people wishing to go in to vetinerary science in the future or who have these experiences to date and want to work with some exotic animals, reptiles and birds.

Applicants must have a keen interest in animals and be prepared to work in all facets of daily life in a modern zoo - from feeding and cleaning animals to taking tours of lively school children!
