Changing Worlds has organised a variety of placements in and around Chiang Rai. Chiang Rai is a bustling town in the northernmost province of Thailand, close to Burma and Laos. It is the commercial and educational centre of the region and allows relatively easy access to the tribal people of the hills, who have suffered persecution and forced migration from neighbouring countries. The town itself has plenty to see and do, making it a lively place to live and work. There are modern shops (for example, Boots the chemists!) and supermarkets sitting side by side more exotic, traditional stores. One highlight is the night bazaar - a fantastic place to shop for gifts and to savour excellent (and cheap!) Thai cuisine. Our one-week orientation on arrival in Thailand will include tutoring in basic Thai language and a guided tour around Chiang Rai province (including trekking into hill tribe areas). You will ride an elephant and enjoy a river trip on a longboat. We hope to teach you some local handicrafts too!
