In most cases you will live in pairs or more with host families in a family house close to the location of the placement. You can expect to walk to work or take a short bus journey (this will be very cheap!). All our host families have been closely vetted by the representative. Karanja will have looked for professional people like teachers, doctors, civil servants and lawyers to act as hosts. These people will have an excellent understanding of the English language. The typical homestead comprises of several bedrooms a shared living area, shared bathroom and tiolet and a small compound. All families will have a telephone so you can take incoming calls from friends and family. Kenyans are very welcoming and will be very happy to have you to stay. They will ensure you have a safe and secure place to stay. In some cases volunteers may be accommodated in hostels in comfortable surroundings. You will be informed of where you will be living before you depart from the UK.
