There are considerable advantages of living and working in Yantai compared to other cities in China:
- Yantai is a coastal city that enjoys the type of climate associated with being located next to the Yellow Sea. It does not experience the acute colds of winters and the intense heats of the summers.
- Yantai is one busy bustling city of medium-size in China, boasting of a total population of 6.4 million. It has been appraised and rated by UNEP (UN Environment Program) as 'one of the most suitable and pleasant cities for human settlement in the world'.
- Yantai does not have the pollution levels (created by the road congestion) of the bigger inland cities in China. The cool sea breezes help keep the pollution levels down.
- Yantai is a relatively cheap place to live and work compared with the bigger cities.
- Yantai is in Shandong province. The local culture is built upon the philosophy of Confucius. The region is the centre for martial arts and for the ‘Chinese spirit’.
- Yantai has good infrastructure allowing easy movement in and around the city. This allows good access to the neighbouring countryside where outsiders can experience the traditional Chinese ways of life.
- Yantai University has a total student enrolment of over 30,000 on campus, and the Yantai downtown city has about 1.7 million city residents with lots of amusement facilities, so the night life is populous and good.
- Yantai offers a personalised service to all those wishing to come and learn Chinese Mandarin and to those who wish to volunteer in the local schools. Jack Lui, the Changing Worlds representative and course co-ordinator at Yantai University lives and works locally. Jack will welcome you to Yantai and assist you throughout your stay.
- Yantai University offers unique Chinese mandarin and culture courses. The faculty and staff are experienced, professional, lively and enthusiastic to teach. They will offer you one to one tuition as well to help you learn quickly if time is of the optimum. The course content is the same that is received in other universities around China – the differences is that classes are smaller and more personalised.
- Yantai is a one hour flight from Beijing the capital of China. The flights to and from Yantai are cheap and regular so it is possible to travel at weekends and during holidays.
