If you want to gain the most out of your placement in Mendoza it is important that you are a confident speaker of Spanish before you leave the UK. We require that all applicants should have a minimum of Advanced level Spanish however if applicants can demonstrate that they are keen and willing to learn more then we would be happy to consider them. We will assess your spoken Spanish at the Pre Departure briefings in the UK. This will take place about two months before you are due to depart. If we feel you need to improve on your spoken Spanish then we will point you towards a number of different options - to learn more here in the UK, to go on an intense course in Madrid or to go on a course in Buenos Aires in Argentina before your placement begins. In all cases everyone will enjoy a two week 'Introduction to Latin American Spanish' in Mendoza. This course is an informal ten day programme with a bilingual teacher Amparo Gonzales. Amparo, in discussion with Jose the representative, has constructed a fun course that will not only expose you to the language but will give you a much better insight in to Mendoza, its history and culture and Argentina as a country. This course is an integral part of the Changing Worlds programme and has been costed accordingly. For all our volunteers going away on or after Monday 01 September 2008 Changing Worlds will ask you to complete a Criminal Record Bureau check. Click here for more details and an application form.
